A striking and sophisticated pair of Victorian onyx and seed pearl mourning earrings, handcrafted during the Grand or High Victorian period, circa 1870. An elegant and unique choice for formal wear or the perfect heirloom gift.

At the center of the highly polished black onyx ovals sit seed pearls surrounded by a Victorian oak leaf motif. The tops feature gold fill crimped bezels with contemporary 14k gold wires for comfort.

In mourning jewelry, onyx symbolized grief and endurance, while seed pearls represented tears and purity. The leaf motif, subtly asymmetrical and pegged through the back, often signified renewal and the natural cycle of life and death.
