The Beni Ourain (pronounced 'wahr-aine') is hands down the most well-known style of Moroccan rugs-- the classic version being large scale dark diamonds on a sea of natural wool. Beni Ourain is a region of Morocco & the name of the indigenous Berber tribe that lives in that area. The weaver who created this piece truly had an imagination of her own and departed from the tribe's typical symbols to create a piece of woven art that is truly her own.
My 9 year old is currently obsessed with prehistoric cultures & has taught me so much about the early origins of man. She particularly loves cave paintings & recently visited the Tarascon site in the South of France. The patterns on this piece and the subtle tones reminds me of the primitive cave markings and the shadow remnants of some of the drawings.

Due to the vintage and handmade nature of these rugs, there may be some discoloration, irregularities in carpet width/edging and the pile may be worn in places. If the carpet has any flaws, they are featured clearly in photos and in the description.
