Not all cats will wear a collar for the first time with no problem at all, however for most it takes a bit of getting used to. The first time you put it on, they may manage to get it off fairly quickly. So for the first few times, put it on when they are inside and you are there to watch them. Distract them from the unfamiliar feeling with a toy or treats. This also rewards them for keeping it on. If they are clearly finding the collar annoying and cannot be distracted, take it off. Next time try and keep it on a little longer. Eventually they won't be bothered by it at all and you can then leave it on permanently.

Some shop owners require you lay a collar flat and measure the length. Practical right? Actually no. Here's why. All collars are not the same thickness (nylon, thick leather etc.) therefore if laid flat for all you will end up with different sizes . This is why we require you to measure with a soft tape the actual neck and not the collar for a much more professional sizing.
