A formatted list of our yarn bases is available on our website at: https://bluebarnfiber.com/pages/our-yarn-bases
This listing is for one skein of yarn. This yarn is custom dyed and takes anywhere from 1 to 10 business days to send out so you can choose your base (timeframe depends on how busy we are -see our FAQ for more info). By default, our yarn will come to you in a skein and you will need to wind it into a ball or cake before using it. We offer our ball winding service separately (on our front page) if you do not wish to do this yourself. Please make sure to add it to your cart before checking out and not in a separate order.
Important: please buy everything you need for your project at once so I can do my best to ensure the yarn matches well. We have several colorways that will not be identical even if dyed at the same time, so we recommend alternating skeins if matching is a concern.
BASES AVAILABLE:
Fingering and sock weight:
Squishy Sock - 85/15 Ultra fine SW Merino/Nylon, 4 ply, 437 yards per 100g - This is our favorite basic go-to: soft but strong sock yarn - a jack of all trades. Can literally be used for anything.
Silky Sock - 75/25 Ultra Fine SW Merino /Silk 4-ply, 437 yards. This base is shiny, sturdy, and strong. It takes dye nicely (just slightly lighter than non silk bases) and has wonderful drape.
Belle - ULTRA fine 16 micron SW Merino/Cashmere/Silk - 75/15/10, 2-ply, 437 yards per 100g - This is the softest fingering weight base that we carry and the most luxurious. It's on the delicate side.
Slinky 150g - 80/10/10 SW Merino/Silk; 600 yards, 2-Ply - this is a great choice for shawls. Available in 100g skeins by special request only. Slightly longer skein than our other bases.
I Knead This - 80/10/10 SW Merino/Cashmere/Nylon; 435 yards, 4-Ply - Ultra soft yarn with a nice 4-ply twist which makes it suitable for socks too. Slightly longer skein than our other bases.
Voo - 80/15/5 SW Sparkle; 4-Ply, 438 yards - available in gold or silver.
Bright Eyes - 75/25 SW BFL/Nylon, 4-ply, 463 yards. This is slightly less soft than our other bases (not scratchy though); it's extra tough and is a popular choice for long lasting socks or even just the heel. Slightly longer skein than our other bases.
Mini skeins - available for every colorway as a tonal color that matches one of the colors in the colorway that you're buying. If you choose this option, please add a note regarding which color you want the mini to be. Mini skeins are fingering weight, 93 yards each and 20g in a 4-ply 75/25 SW Merino/Nylon base that closely matches squishy sock. Note: minis are not available as full colorways and are tonals only. Message us if you have questions about this. If you don't note what color you want, I'll pick one for you. So please, note it.
Other weight bases:
LACE - 80/20 Superwash Merino/Silk, 2 ply 875 yards/100g skein. This is the thinnest base we carry.

Silky DK- 75/25 Ultra Fine SW Merino /Silk 4-ply, 231 yards

Schmoozie DK - 75/25 SW Merino/Nylon 4-ply, 246 yards - great for DK socks.

Bases that are available by special request are noted on our main website.

Care: Superwash wool is special because it is treated in such a way that it will not felt the way normal wool does, so your stitches will remain crisp and your finished work won’t shrink.
As with all hand dyed items, we recommend hand washing your yarn/finished item in cool water and laying it flat to dry. We rinse this yarn until the water runs crystal clear, but small amounts of excess dye may rarely come off with the first couple of washings. If this happens, rest assured that if it happens, it is only excess dye and should not affect the coloring of your yarn in any way. If a large amount of bleeding ever occurs with any of our items, please contact us so we can make it right. We always recommend hand washing handmade items to preserve the longevity of your beautiful work.
We recommend using cool water and a neutral soap, such as baby shampoo, Soak, Unicorn, or Eucalan when blocking your finished item if you are knitting or crocheting it.
Extra note: I photograph our products with the utmost care taken to ensure that the color in the photos accurately represents what you will get. Please keep in mind that different monitors can display colors differently and there may also be slight variations from batch to batch.
