It takes the wool from approximately five sheep to make one shyrdak rug. The process is slow and labor-intensive. Traditionally shyrdak rugs have been made by women.
Up to date, shyrdak is one of the rarest kinds of carpets weaving in Kyrgyzstan. In order to preserve this tradition for centuries, the government nominated shyrdak carpets to enter to the UNESCO social heritage list. All our shyrdaks are 100% handmade by artisans in At Bashy region.

If you didn’t find your size of rug or other, we offer personalized or custom, made-to-order items. You can request a personalized custom product for an item on our listing with the Request Custom Order button. You can choose a size, patterns, and colors among 54 colors pallet for your felt rug Shyrdak. We do the first digital model to preview and approval then it takes about 1 month to produce and deliver to you. For other items in our customizable item, we receive personal branding your patterns. The long life of your Shyrdak:

• Use a sponge and soapy water to remove stains, and iron or sunlight to dry your Shyrdak.
• Vacuum clean on a low setting without using a brush
attachment.
• Shake the rug outside and beat it with a stick or a carpet beater.
• Expose to direct sunlight outdoors for 3 hours twice a year.
• When storing, make sure to use anti-moth spray and keep the storage room dry.

Wash a wool scarf:
* Use cold water. Leave the scarf to soak for around 5 mins, gently swirling it from time to time.
* Then rinse with cold water until the water runs clear.
* Remove from the water and gently squeeze out the water.
* Lay it flat on a towel, roll, and gently squeeze to remove the excess water.

We are based in Kyrgyzstan which is called the heart of Central Asia. All our products are partly made by handcrafters who are from rural areas of Kyrgyzstan. We encourage all traditional production methods and do our best to help them.
