Scent: While the plant is said to have a herbaceous, earthy, "horse-like" smell - The essential oil has a very mild, faint scent with woody / earthy, and slightly nutty undertones.
Fun fact: The literal meaning of the word "Ashwagandha" is "smell of horse" because the fresh roots of the herb are said to smell like a horse and, as the story goes, when consuming it, you may develop the strength and vitality of a horse as well.
Ashwagandha Essential Oil, also known as winter cherry, Indian Ginseng, and Somnifera Root, belongs to the plant family of Solanaceae (nightshade). Most commonly used part of the Ashwagandha plant for its properties are the leaves and roots. The presence of withanolides, a group of steroidal lactones contribute to the herb’s benefits.
Ashwagandha has been used in Ayurvedic traditional med, as well as Indian and Unani traditional med for thousands of years. In modern days, it is classified as an adaptogenic herb, meaning it is said to have ingredients to help our bodies manage and restore balance after difficult situations. In Ayurveda, it is characterized as a “razayana”. Ashwagandha is a versatile herb in that each and every part of the plant is said to be able to used to help manage a myriad of conditions.
The Ashwagandha Essential Oil itself comes from the root of the plant and it is regarded as re-enforce positivity and good vibes.
