Hard Enamel pins and needle minders are handmade items and can vary slightly from piece to piece, so I inspect each piece and assign a grade; Collector, Standard, or Seconds. Grading is a personal evaluation process and criteria can vary from person to person, so this is how I personally define and grade my hard enamel pieces.

Collector (S) Grade - These are the finest examples of the piece and I don't generally get very many of these. There are no noticeable flaws and enamel, metal plating, and back stamp are all exceptional.

Standard (A) Grade - Standard pins are very high quality and an excellent example of the piece. However, on very close inspection, they may have some very minor faults and could include any of the following:
- very minor underfill on enamel
- some minor imperfections in the metal plating
- minor variations in metal line thickness
- light surface scuffing or light scratches on the enamel or metal
- some minor dust or specks on the enamel
- plating imperfections on the back of the pin

Seconds (B) Grade - Seconds grade pins are not as nice as a Standard grade, but it is still a highly wearable piece and can make a good addition to a collection if the imperfections noted below don’t bother you. These pins have noticeable flaws, some more minor or major than others. Some of the flaws that would qualify include any of the following:
- noticeable or multiple areas of underfilled enamel
- moderately scuffed enamel or metal
- missing, thin, or thick, metal lines
- noticeable dust or specks on enamel
- small gouges or marks on enamel
- missing or damaged plating

*Neodymium magnets are brittle and can break/shatter if dropped or hit against a hard surface. Do not use it if you have a pacemaker or other device that can be negatively affected by strong magnets. They can also be a choking hazard so please be sure to keep them away from children and pets.

**Seconds pins do not come with a backing card or protective sleeve, but will be wrapped in tissue paper and shipped with the same level of care as Standard and Collector grade pieces.
