Hieros Gamos symbolizes the alchemical union of masculine and feminine polarities within to achieve enlightened consciousness. Represented as a sacred marriage, it integrates seeming opposites to produce expanded awareness and wholeness. Hieros Gamos appears in Tantra, Kabbalah, and Jungian psychology.

The alchemical process of Hieros Gamos, or sacred marriage, holds deep importance in the soul's journey toward enlightened wholeness. Hieros Gamos symbolizes the union of masculine and feminine polarities within the self through the aligned integration of their complementary energies. When these seeming opposites synthesized, a transcendent state of being emerges.
In mystical Christianity, Jesus and Mary Magdalene perfectly model the balanced state of Hieros Gamos. Together they represent the sacred consort pair, with Jesus embodying the masculine qualities of action, logic, strength, and protector energy; while Mary epitomizes the feminine qualities of intuition, feeling, nurturing power, and visionary energy. Their sacred marriage suggests that only through valuing and blending the full spectrum of these masculine and feminine potentials within can we find self-realization.
The soul contains both lover energies within the self, the yin and yang. Hieros Gamos is the interweaving dance that blends their contrasts into harmonic union at the heart. When integrated in equilibrium, the hieros gamos gives birth to new states of wisdom, creativity, compassion, courage, receptivity, and wholeness. We marry heaven and earth within us.
