I use Argentium Silver 940 to create a lot of my designs. This type of silver is more tarnish and scratch resistant than traditional Sterling Silver 925 but will still begin to tarnish and pick up scratches over time. Care should still be taken to avoid getting your jewellery wet or dirty to prevent tarnishing or scratches. You can gently clean your piece of jewellery using a soft cloth, some dish soap and warm water. All my pieces are packaged and sent in an Ossia Obscure branded jewellery box. It is a good idea to store your jewellery in this box when not in use as they have anti-tarnish properties to protect your pieces.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I don't currently offer gift wrapping, but all orders are packaged in nice black jewellery box with my logo on it. Each piece is wrapped with a black velvet cloth inside the box for protection and for a nicer presentation. Sometimes I will put a small piece of folded bubble wrap inside the lid of the jewellery box to prevent the piece from moving around and being damaged or scratched. Orders that aren't labelled as gifts sometimes have a handwritten thank you note (from me) included in them too. Orders marked as gifts won't include a thank you note from me, but will include a gift note if you have written one when placing the order.

How do I design my creations?

I hand carve most of my designs in wax here in Dublin, Ireland. Nothing is made digitally or 3D printed. This is why some pieces aren't reproduced or are only reproduced a few times. I have to individually make each one and it takes a lot of time. It's also why no two pieces will look exactly the same, there will always be small variations. I then cast all my designs at my Grandfather's workshop where I have my small burnout furnace and vacuum casting unit. This is all done by me and my little handheld propane torch to melt the silver.

What are the hallmarks on your designs?

In Ireland it's the law that any item made with a precious metal has to be sent to our Assay Office in Dublin Castle for testing and hallmarking. This means that it has been tested for purity and to give the person buying it piece of mind that they're getting a genuine product in whatever grade of metal it's advertised as. My jewellery pieces have been hallmarked in Dublin Castle with 3 hallmarks; A maker's mark (my own initials), the Hibernia mark (to show it was made in Ireland) and fineness mark (925 - to show what grade of silver it is) I work with Argentium Silver 940, you will see they have been marked as Sterling Silver 925. This is because Argentium doesn't have an official hallmark yet, so they get downgraded to 925.

What type of metals do I use?

Argentium silver 940 & Sterling silver 925. I cast my designs in Argentium 940 silver or Sterling silver 925. The type of silver used will be stated in the title and description of the item. Argentium silver is a slightly better quality, more tarnish resistant type of silver than 925. It has a higher silver content and doesn't contain copper. I usually use it in designs where I want a brighter, more shiny finish. It is also more expensive than Sterling silver 925. I can also work with gold, this is upon request due to the high cost of the precious metal.

All my orders are sent using Registered Post with An Post from Dublin, Ireland. This will require a signature upon delivery, so please make sure some one will be able to sign the delivery. All orders will have tracking. Delivery times are only an estimate and are out of my control once the package has been handed over to the post office. Please make sure that you use the correct name and address when placing an order as I won't be responsible for orders not received due to incorrect details. Items unable to be delivered will be returned to me in Ireland. I will contact you providing the option to pay again for it to be reshipped or to have the cost of the item refunded minus the shipping cost.

The pendant is amazing — it's everything I had hoped for. The closer you look at it the more apparent the great craftsmanship becomes. I cannot recommend Saoirse's work highly enough!
