Seller's description
This small sake cup has a bright tonality with visible crazing and dark spots. Faceted irregularly, in a rather sculptural way, with a rough, unglazed texture left in places — despite the faceting, it feels ergonomic and settles comfortably into any hand. The thick-walled base makes it surprisingly heavy for its size, so you feel the weight before you even take a sip. It's been through multiple rounds of glazing and firing, and it's equally at home serving sake, espresso, or a good cup of tea worth slowing down for. There is one of this cup and there will not be a second. The same clay and the same glazes, put through the same fire, come out as something else every time.
Dimensions
Height: 6.4 cm / 2.5 in
Diameter: 6 cm / 2.4 in
Weight: 166 g / 5.9 oz
How it was made
Shaped by hand, without a potter's wheel, then dried thoroughly before bisque firing in a gas kiln. I applied specially mixed glazes and fired it again at around 1000°C (1832°F). To build the craquelure, I removed it red-hot and placed it into sawdust for reduction, then tempered it in cold water and cleaned it with an abrasive to remove soot and ash. Lead-free, non-toxic glazes throughout. Signed.
A note on reduction firing
This cup was reduction-fired, which can leave a faint smoky scent right after glazing. This piece has been in the studio long enough that the scent should no longer be noticeable by the time it reaches you.
My love for traveling to Asia and my passion for tea inspired me to create tea bowls — the heart of Raku. I deeply respect tradition, but as a designer, I also aim to bring a more contemporary perspective to my ceramics.
Care
Not dishwasher safe. Hand-wash with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. I don't recommend using it with vinegar or other acidic foods and drinks, as this may alter the glaze.
Packaging & shipping
I pack every piece the way museums and galleries do: wrapped first in tissue paper, then nested into styrofoam hollowed out to its exact shape, boxed in cardboard, and finally wrapped in paper — decorative paper first, if it's a gift or a special order. I ship within 1–3 days.
A note for US buyers: standard postal shipping from Poland to the USA is currently unavailable, but I'm happy to ship this by courier — just message me with your phone number and email so I can arrange it for you.
Colors may look slightly different depending on your screen and lighting — that's the nature of fire-born ceramics.
