Hand-dyed and hand finished; using slow and eco-conscious processes to create beautiful fabrics in joyful colour.

Specifications:

100% Mulberry silk (excluding polyester thread for hems)
44cm x 43cm silk square
Dyed with madder root and logwood bark

Process:

Each piece has been naturally dyed using materials such as bark, flowers, tree roots and food waste to add colour to fabric. The beautiful patterns on this fabric are created through bundle dyeing, where the dye matter is wrapped up in the fabric and steamed to fix the colour.

(All of this takes many days to complete and many hours of learning to perfect the results)

>Due to the process of natural dyeing, there will be variation of colour and texture on the fabric. None of these colours are the result of staining, but the imperfect beauty of using natural materials.

>Colours may be slightly different from those in the photo, as it is difficult to capture true colour on screen.

>The use of this scarf for a headscarf is based around my own head measurements – with some room for a larger head size. However, even your hair texture may have a big influence on the fit of this scarf, so if it’s not quite reaching around your head, feel free to use it as a neck tie, bandana or silk bag tie.

To best take care of your naturally dyed products:

First, avoid washing as much as possible (this applies to all clothing items), as the less you wash them the longer they'll last. Keeping your items away from direct sunlight will also help prevent fading.

Hand wash in warm water with a pH neutral soap, being particularly gentle with woollen items to prevent felting and hang to dry in the shade. Steam iron on a medium heat to remove creases.

I am very happy to create custom orders for yourself or your loved ones. Natural dyeing is a very time-consuming process, so please allow 3 weeks for the item to be produced.
