Celluloid is a common material used by Luthiers in guitar building. It’s also used for pick guards, guitar picks, and luxury fountain pens. It was originally created as a faux Ivory. Due to the nature of Ivory and how it yellows over time, celluloid was a great choice for a replacement. Lighter colors will yellow over time as well.

The white celluloid that I use is the most prone to this and it often happens during the making process. Other colors do not tend to yellow. I attempt to avoid an excessive amount of this but its very difficult to avoid entirely. I’ve observed that once it does this during the making process, it doesn’t tend to yellow more. Since this is a feature of the material, I cannot guarantee a pristine white.

A bentwood ring is a wooden ring that has been laminated upon itself. A long strip of wood veneer is boiled so that it becomes bendable and is then wrapped around a form into a spiral.

Once the band is dry, it maintains its new shape.

It is then tightly wound, sized appropriately, and glued (stabilized) with thin CA (cyanoacrylate), which is the active ingredient in most brands of super glue.

This results in an incredibly durable ring blank that can then be shaped into your ring.

Once shaping is complete, an Inlay channel is cut into the ring and filled with stone, metal, and many other different types of material.

The final step in creating my rings is to apply a UV Resin finish.

I'm just beginning to venture into ring inlay so will hold onto these until I practice on less expensive blanks purchased elsewhere. These rings (I bought 3 of them altogether) have a nice weight, feel good on my finger, and are titanium - I like titanium in general.
