This plant grows very quickly with medium lighting and a root fertilizer tablet placed within 3 inches of the plant. We grow this plant in sand, gravel, AND soil aquariums with no problems! This plant grows extremely tall AND it spreads laterally with runners (like strawberries!) so we recommend placing it in the back and sides of your aquarium!

This plant can grow very large and quickly, so if you plant an African cichlid aquarium with this plant 4-8 weeks before adding juvenile African cichlids, by the time you have adult African cichlids you should have plenty of large Vallisneria plants with deep roots!
