What you will get:
You will receive one of the prayer plants, Calathea Makoyana growing in a 6" pot.
Description
The reason for growing Calatheas is mainly for their beautiful foliage. There are several dozens of Calathea varieties with various beautiful leaf color patterns. An interesting phenomenon is that the leaves of most Calathea varieties close at night and open during the day. Such a process is referred as nyctinasty. When close, the leaves look like praying – therefore, Calatheas are also called “Prayer Plants.” Calatheas are pet-safe. Their leaves are non-toxic to animals.
The Calathea makoyana is also called peacock plant plant as its leaves resemble the elegance and beauty of a peacock’s tail.
Care tips
Soil: Calatheas like soil with good moisture retaining capacity but draining well.
Light: Bright and indirect light is best for Calatheas when grown indoors and shaded to partially shades for outside.
Water. Calatheas like constantly moist soil but not soggy. The plant is sensitive to chemicals such as fluoride, chlorine, and bromine. It is best to water them with purified or filtered water like those for drinking. When limited, tap water may be used after sitting for 24 hours after collection.
Temperature. Calatheas are tropical plants. They thrive in a temperature range from 60°-80°F.
Feeding. Since Calatheas are sensitive to salts, do not over feed the plants. Make sure to flush out the built salts periodically.
