✦ BACKGROUND CONTEXT ✦
This infographic is based on Pete Walker's 4F Trauma Personality Types model from his book "Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving". This provides a very concise and big picture view to help drive understanding and empowerment through insights into how trauma shapes an individual's personality. Since I created and published this infographic in 2018 on my site complextraumahealing.wordpress.com, it has received a lot of love from therapists and individuals all over the world. I have been receiving multiple requests for a higher resolution printable version and permission to use in professional presentations and sessions. Finally, I'm so glad to be making it available.

This model elaborates the four basic survival strategies and defensive styles that develop out of our instinctive Fight, Flight, Freeze and Fawn Response. Variances in our childhood abuse/neglect pattern, birth and genetics result in us gravitating towards one or two of these 4F survival strategies. We do this as a child to prevent, escape or ameliorate further traumatization. Each of these trauma personality types is on a continuum that runs from mild to extreme. There are a few pure types with one predominant strategy and most other survivors are hybrids of the 4Fs.

This is a behavioral “Personality Type” model applicable only to the survivors of childhood trauma and this should not be confused with the Fight, Flight and Freeze threat “Response” which is a normal in-built response mechanism within all human beings.
