I look at old maps, usually 3-4 from a time period, and then I create my own as if I were the cartographer of record during that period. I try to make my work look good from across the room as well as up close. This one was hard since there were only bits and pieces of information to go by from the mid 16th Century. I was commissioned to do this one to coincide with the founding of Pensacola, the oldest Western settlement on the Gulf Coast. Each limited edition print is hand aged by soaking in staining solutions, crumpling, ironing back out, tearing edges, touching up damage, signing, numbering and shrink wrapping on black foam board (smaller prints). Larger prints will ship in a tube. International orders will also ship in tube.
