WHY 24K GOLD? ~~~~~~~~~~

Nothing compares to 24k gold.

Most gold rings sold in the U.S. are alloyed and stamped as 10k, 14k or 18k. This means the rings are actually only 41%, 53% and 66% gold, respectively. Manufacturers alloy gold with other metals for many good reasons: to create colored golds, to increase durability, and to make owning gold jewelry more affordable. But alloying gold also comes with downsides. Several common alloys involve base metals like copper and nickel that many people have skin allergies to. Alloys can also break down from wear or exposure to common household chemicals. When this happens, tiny cracks develop in the metal and the piece can eventually fall apart.

Luckily for us, there is another option: Keep the gold pure! Gold is one of the least reactive elements in the world and so, when unalloyed, will not irritate skin, oxidize, or be harmed by common household chemicals. It's a common misconception in the U.S. that pure gold is also too soft to make jewelry with. This is incorrect! When made thick and wide like the Augustus Band, the ring will be as rigid as other bands and safe to wear. Another concern involves scratches. Like all gold rings, high polished 24k will show signs of wear over time. But by leaving the hammer marks from the fabrication process visible, future scratches will blend in with the ring's matte texture. Paired with an interior and sides that I high polish, the band becomes something special with a finish the develops alongside your life. With normal wear and care, the band will look beautiful and last several lifetimes!

I have yet to mention the most addictive quality of 24k gold, and likely the main reason you are considering it: the color! Few things are as luxurious as seeing such deep yellow against your skin. Pure gold is captivating and will surprise anyone who sees it. 24k is such a rich yellow that it makes more familiar 14k yellow gold jewelry look like white gold. If you choose 24k, you will own a piece of treasure on par with kings and pharaohs of the past. For those wishing to truly honor a special occasion with a unique piece of jewelry, the 24k Augustus Band is the right choice!

SAVINGS ~~~~~~~~~~~

Because I am an independent jeweler, I can sell jewelry like the Augustus Band at a lower price than larger jewelry stores. Stores have higher operating costs from employing larger staffs and renting physical storefronts. These things can be great to have, but they require higher prices on their products to cover those extra costs. I do not have those expenses, and those savings get passed along to you! You can also trust that all sales' proceeds go to the person making your jewelry :D

FABRICATION ~~~~~~~

After you choose your ring size, I will use my 10 years of experience making jewelry in the U.S. to craft your ring. I do this by melting 100% recycled 24k grain in a crucible, and pouring it into an ingot mold. I run the ingot through a rolling mill many times to shape it into a rectangle to get your size. Once I have the gold rolled out, I'll turn it into a ring shape by hammering it on a ring mandrel to your selected size. After filing and lining up each end of the gold, I'll fuse the ends together with a thin piece of 24k. This makes the connection structurally stronger than a solder seam and keeps the gold pure. After a little filing and shaping, I'll high polish the inside and sides of the ring, leaving the surface hammer finished, stamp it 24k, and then ship it your way for free (inside the U.S.)! Each hammer finish will look slightly different and uniquely your own. To guarantee the security of your new ring, I also insure the shipping at no extra cost to you! The ring will also come in a stylish box (See example above) either to store your new ring in, or for the big day.

I make each ring as they're ordered, so please allow up to 2 weeks for me to make the ring and get it shipped out. Because each band is custom made-to-order and my gold supplier does not accept returns for gold grain once I open their sealed package, I cannot offer returns or cancellations as most of the purchase price goes to the material cost. Also note, because I make these bands based on weight and not dimension, the width/thickness of each band will vary based on the sizing you select. You can get a sense of the proportion in the the rings pictured above: the first is a size 6.75 and the other is a size 10.5. Both rings weigh 1 ozt.

Buying something like this is no light decision, and so I spent quite a bit of time shopping around with different jewelers. I instantly knew John was the one simply by the way he responded to my first message. He agreed to set a stone for me, one that had significant meaning for me and was able to incorporate it into this Augustus style craft. He was extremely responsive and helpful throughout the entire process and so nice! The final product is immaculate. Perfect. Indescribably beautiful. My complete satisfaction with the 1 oz. Augustus Ring (size 12) is as pure as the 31.11 grams of 24K gold it is crafted from. This is the ring that I have been looking at for quite some time, and with the price of gold soaring, I could wait no longer. John did an outstanding job on creating this piece. The finish serves two purposes, in my opinion; 1. The hammer finish removes the initial worries of the first ding or scratch. 2. The finish gives the appearance of a jeweled finish, like the multiple facets of a gemstone, this finish reflects light brilliantly. Communication with John was terrific, and he kept me updated through the crafting of the ring. Shipping was super fast and very well packaged and protected. Job very well done!
