LAUNDRY: Put 5-6 whole shells (1/2 oz) in a muslin wash bag and toss directly in washer with laundry (don't over stuff loads). You can reuse them 6-10 times
Be sure to tie the bag or sock securely.
Run the washing machine as usual.
The berries release saponin, a natural detergent, which cleans your clothes effectively without the need for commercial detergents.

Hair and Body Care: Soap nut berries can also be used for personal care purposes.

***Note: If your laundry is heavily soiled, you can add about a 1/4 – 1/2 cup of baking soda to the wash and it will give extra cleaning power.
When the wash is done, separate the Soap Nut Berries' bag from the wash and hang up the bag of Soap Nuts up to dry for the next use. If you are using cold water, be sure to boil your Soap Nut Berries in hot water until they soften. This will release the soap in the berries.

You can reuse the same 6 Soap Nuts to do up to 6 loads of laundry or more! When you take the soap bag out of the wash, squeeze it a bit and see that it has more bubbles. If it does, the nuts can be used again. Hang your bag for the next use. When the nuts are done, just throw them into the compost and refill with 6 more soap nuts.

HOW TO USE SOAP NUT BERRIES FOR HAIR AND BODY CARE:
Create a soap nut liquid by boiling a handful of soap nuts in water until it becomes soapy.
