I can hear a lot of you saying “finally”, and yes I know this bird has been on my ‘to do’ list for a very long time. It has taken ages to find the right photo, with enough interest, and the right sort of pose. Hopefully it will have been worth the wait!

Blue Jays are a large, common songbird in America, and many people will be familiar with them visiting their gardens and backyards. They are very intelligent, not only forming tight family bonds, but also complex social systems too. Like the European Jay that we are more familiar with here in the UK, they are noted to enjoy eating acorns. They will stash them for leaner times, and many of these acorns get forgotten and help with the spread of Oak trees.

It has been great to work on a project, with some nice vibrant colours again, the blues and violets are super shades to mix, and they blend and merge really well together. I have classed this as an intermediate project, mainly because of the complex feather patterns within the wings. However, if you are not daunted by this, there is nothing to stop beginners having a go.
