ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This original handmade 10x8" linocut print of a black and white floral still life showcases a spray of Chantilly Lace Snapdragon blossoms reaching out of a small round bud vase and backed by a bold geometric shape. I think the combination of sleek geometry and voluptuous petals gives off an Art Deco vibe. I was inspired to make this image when a stalk of Chantilly Lace Snapdragons finally bloomed in my container garden after a winter of rough weather and my not-quite-green-yet thumb. I loved their swooping mouths and delicate frills and wanted to make a small devotional image for them to commemorate our work together to make it through the growing season. Could be a good housewarming or teacher gift, or a treat for gardeners and anyone who loves flowers!

This print is part of an Open Edition monoblock series, and each one is hand inked and pressed. Each print is signed and dated by the artist (me!).

HOW IT'S MADE:
This image began with a line drawing in pen of this bouquet of flowers harvested from my back garden. I then reversed the image, and transferred it using carbon paper onto a linoleum printmaking block. Then comes the fun part of carving away every part of the linoleum I *don't* want to see in the finished image. Once carving is complete, I use a brayer to roll on thin layers of relief printing ink, ten place my fine art paper on top, and transfer the ink by hand using a baren, a hand-pulled small press, or my trusty wooden spoon!

NOTE: This item is an original print from a hand-carved linoleum block. Each pulled print is ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE and will show subtle variations in ink transfer.

Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Oil-based Ink on Rives BFK acid-free printmaking paper featuring a deckled edge.
