Ever wonder how some of the digital content out there was actually created?

Well this collection was extremely special to make! My grandmother had all this lace she didn't know what to do with. Some of it was newer, but some of it was quite old! I asked if I could snip some pieces off to experiment with. I had an idea! I wanted to see if I could make some very realistic looking digital lace. So when I got the snipped pieces home, I carefully laid them out onto my scanner bed and placed a black piece of paper behind them. I did this so you could clearly see the white lace on the black background in the finished scanned images. Once I had all my pieces scanned in, I went into my editing program and I increased the contrast between light and dark to make sure there was very little gray left in each image. I then used a filter to subtract all the dark colors so that all that was left was white pieces of lace with transparent backgrounds. Since lace sometimes stretches, some of the pieces were curved awkwardly, so I fixed this by cropping those sections away and repeating the good sections. I was trying to achieve even looking straight strips and this procedure worked perfectly. Overall, I was so thrilled with the finished product! It's exciting to think that some of this lace is actually vintage/antique and now it is perfectly preserved forever!
