Just love this hat - reminds me of the hat my mother made me years ago. The pattern is very well written and excellent layout which can be followed easily with no trouble. I only bought bulky yarn in: Yarn Bee Velvety Smooth Aran would you recommend this yarn for this hat? Thank you so much for your expertise. Simply love this shop and highly recommend any and all of their patterns.

OK, so this is a cute pattern overall. HOWEVER, I have notes for Lori and Noel. 1. The velvet yarn you suggested in the pattern made it VERY hard for me to see my stitches, so I had a hard time figuring out where to put my hook. 2. There should be (at least in my opinion) stitch counts for each row, especially on increase or decrease rows. 3. I had difficulty on the brim portion, due to the small hook size. I ripped it back, went up a hook size and was able to crochet the rows the way they needed to be. 4. Didn't really care for the ribbed look of the brim with the front post single crochets, so I did that part as just plain single crochets, no front posts. 5. When I make this pattern again (and I definitely will because it worked up in only a few hours), I will use a regular (not velvet) medium worsted weight yarn.
