Yarn
Manufactured in a Tuscan factory with sustainability at its core, our yarn is made from 70% wool, 25% polyamide and 5% other fibres. All of the fibres are recycled from a selection of the best pre and post consumer regenerated materials, which are particularly soft, durable, and with excellent thermal qualities. The use of a large percentage of wool in the blend also makes the fabric warmer and more breathable than a similar knit made from synthetics.
Colours are achieved by blending the colours of the original fibres being recycled, so avoiding the need to reprocess the yarn. This saves on the use of dyes, water and power.
The buttons are manufactured from what would otherwise be a waste bi-product, using coconut husks.
Design and Manufacture
Our products are all designed in-house, in our small, rural West Somerset workshop.
This collection was inspired by traditional British hand-knitting techniques which have been passed down for generations. The “cable” patterns form a decorative relief on the surface of the garment, but also increase its thickness and its ability to trap warm air in the tiny spaces between the fibres, so increasing the insulating properties of the knit.
Having been inspired by a traditional knitting technique, we wanted to create garments with a more contemporary feel. Our colour palette is inspired by the landscape of Exmoor, which we are privileged to have on our doorstep. Beautiful shades of yellow and orange abound in the Autumn, as the low rays of the sun kiss the foliage of the wild trees and shrubs that punctuate the flanks of the hills, and on the higher moors the heather blooms, creating swathes of purple, seemingly thrown like blankets across the hilltops. And everywhere, there is green in this lush landscape!
Having created an idea, and selected our yarn and colour palette, our garments are then knitted in a small factory in Tuscany, Italy. From there they make the relatively short journey to our Somerset warehouse by road and sea haulage.
