Shelby is a super cute worm friend who's ready to hang out wherever you are! Keep him on your desk to make you smile on dull work days, dress him up for fancy evenings, or take him to your next Taco Tuesday night.

This crochet pattern is written in English. It contains simple instructions and photographs to show you how to make Shelby, his collar, Mexican sombrero hat, tiny top hat, and Santa Christmas hat.

ABBREVIATIONS ARE IN USA TERMS

For this pattern, you’ll need to know the following basic stitches, plus how to change yarn color:

MR: Magic ring
Tch: Turning chain
Sc: Single crochet
Inc: Increase
Dec: Decrease
FO: Fasten off
FLO: Front loops only (hats)
BLO: Back loops only (hats)

If you’re a beginner, YouTube has plenty of tutorials to get you up to speed on these stitches if you’re not sure how to get started :)

The pattern is crocheted in a spiral round unless stated otherwise.

SIZE

I used an 8/4 yarn with a 3mm crochet hook and 4mm safety eyes. My Shelby Worm turned out 11 inches long.

MATERIALS

Any yarn in contrasting colors for the worm and his collar
Scraps of yarn for the hats
Crochet hook that matches the size of your yarn
Tapestry/yarn needle
Stitch marker
Scissors
Polyfill stuffing
A pair of safety eyes and washers

And either:

A bendy foam hair roller — I used a pink foam roller approximately 10 inches long and ¾ inch wide from a dollar store
OR
Sturdy craft/garden wire, wire cutters, and needle nose pliers
