In the design of this T-Rex skull, I was inspired by a lot of real fossils and mine is an amalgamation of different real specimen from all over the world. A lot from the one that was auctioned off last year by Sotheby's for 6 million dollars, but also partly “Sue” and “Stan”. I also worked hard on getting the teeth serrations right.
The size of this sculpture is:
51x23x32cm (approx. 20” x 9” x 12.6”)
It's the same size of wooden baseplate I use for my Spinosaurus and the Parasaurolophus. That makes it a good size for most people to find a place in there homes for, but... it will be the head of my bigger sculpture, the full skeletons of a T-Rex and Triceratops, that isn't finished, yet.
So this head will fit also on the rest of it's hole skeleton. And if you buy the skull now, you get a refund, when buying the hole skeleton from me in the future.
The wooden base is made from European hardwood (FSC certified) and you can get it in three different color variants (please see photos attached).
The possible colors for the wooden base are:
1. aged walnut brown (what you can see in most pictures in my shop)
2. ebonized black
3. natural oiled beechwood
(please see photos attached).
Tyrannosaurus is a genus of large theropod dinosaur. The species Tyrannosaurus rex (rex meaning "king" in Latin) or T-Rex for its friends, is one of the best know and loved dinosaurs. It lived throughout what was then an island continent known as Laramidia. Fossils are found in a variety of rock formations dating to the Maastrichtian age of the Upper Cretaceous period, 68 to 66 million years ago. It was the last known member of the tyrannosaurids and among the last non-avian dinosaurs before the end of this age caused by a giant meteor.
And today we thing that Jurassic Park was wrong in its picture of the T-Rex. Because it most likely had a kind of feathers, according to new reconstructions that represent the most accurate models of the dinosaur to date.
The most complete specimen of T-Rex we found measures up to 12.3–12.4 m (40–41 ft) in length and maybe could have exceeded sizes of 12.4 m (41 ft) in length, 3.7–4 m (12–13 ft) in hip height, and 10 tonnes (9.8 long tons; 11 short tons) in mass. Although many other theropods likely rivaled Tyrannosaurus in size, it is still among the largest known land predators and is estimated to have exerted the strongest bite force among all terrestrial animals. The largest known skulls measure up to 1.54 meters (5 ft) in length, without the neck part.
That means that my skull sculpture would be around 2m long in reality.
That means with a length of 51cm (20“) that gives it a approx. scale of 1:4. That’s a size most people have a place in there homes for.
The skull itself is made from mixed media plastics and epoxy. Everything is hand painted with real brass parts on a German hardwood baseplate. Wirh real violin lacquer used in the finish. The lower jar is also adjustable by a brass thumb screw.
