FINE Aroid Mix - an artisanal mix for philodendron, monstera, alocasia and other plants that prefer a light, quick draining medium

An artisanally-crafted mix that provides the perfect balance of aeration and moisture retention for all your philodendrons, monsteras, alocasias, syngoniums, tropicals and other plants that prefer a light, quick draining medium.

This is a sustainable mix that uses coco coir and chips in place of peat moss, and plenty of wonderful organic matter. It provides an amazing environment and all the building blocks necessary for your plant to build an incredibly healthy root structure.

Our Fine Aroid Mix is perfect for smaller pots up to 3”. For 4” and above try our Chunky Aroid Mix.

Non-GMO - Peat-free - No synthetic fertilizers

CONTAINS:

Fine Orchid Bark
We use fine orchid bark in place of coco chips in this mix to keep the aggregate size down to help young, tender roots get off to a quick, healthy start. Although it doesn’t last quite as long as the coco chips we use in our Chunky Aroid Mix, your young plants will have been transplanted well before the typical 2 year lifespan orchid bard offers.

Perlite / Pumice
We use coarse perlite in this mix instead of Perlite #3 or LECA. This perlite isn’t overly chunky, and retains less water and more oxygen, and is softer and gentler on delicate roots than LECA. We also add pumice to provide diversity to the size of the aggregates we use, and to add weight to the mix that LECA would normally provide.

Worm Castings / Compost
These two amazing organic amendments provide a diverse and long-lasting source of nutrients for your plants. The worm castings we use are dark and rich, like wet coffee grounds, and the compost we use comes from an organic dairy farm in California, and is of the finest quality you will find anywhere. Completely organic, non-GMO, no synthetics, and free of pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones and sewage sludge (yes, sewage sludge - it’s an ingredient commonly found in lower-quality, non- farm-made compost).

Organic Fertilizers
Tropical houseplants don’t require a lot of fertilizer, so we add these elements in small amounts. But what we add is like gold to the plants - 100% organic elements such as alfalfa meal, fish bone meal, crab meal, neem seed meal, kelp meal, soybean meal and volcanic ash. Biochar absorbs nutrients and releases them slowly, so we only add a small dose to get the positive benefits without the risk of causing nutrient deficiency.

Mycorrhiza (both Endo and Ecto)
There is so much to be said about this amazing fungus and we don’t want to bore you with all the scientific data, but just some of the benefits include increased root production and uptake of nutrients, protection from drought, heat and other stresses, and its ability to improve soil structure

Soil
We use 100% organic soil from an amazing farm in Northern California - it’s the best we’ve found, and we’ve gone through many contenders over the last 30 years before naming this one the hands-down winner! It contains small amounts of organic amendments and fertilizers but not enough to burn sensitive, light-feeding tropical plants the way many other great organic soils do.

While I can not review how my plants did in this mix I can say that this and the moss pole are quality products. They arrived in great time, especially shipping from California to Michigan. I am very satisfied with my order and would order from this company again. Thank you!

I love this soil for my plants and appreciate that I don’t have to search for the ingredients myself.
