Herbal Tallow Face Serum — Calendula, Rose & Hops
A concentrated botanical face serum, hand-crafted in small batches from whole herbs and a carefully balanced lipid base of grass-fed beef tallow and organic jojoba oil.

What's in it
Beef Tallow — Sourced from Sulu Organics, ethically raised, grass-fed cattle.
Organic Jojoba Oil — Technically a liquid wax ester rather than an oil, jojoba is exceptionally stable and resistant to oxidation. It absorbs readily without heaviness, forming the primary carrier in this serum. Certified organic.
Dried Calendula (Calendula officinalis) — Grown and hand-harvested in our backyard garden without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Rich in flavonoids and fat-soluble terpenoids.
Dried Rose Buds (Rosa spp.) — Contributes phytosterols and polyphenols to the lipid infusion.
Dried Hops (Humulus lupulus) — Contains humulone, lupulone, and xanthohumol — a prenylated flavonoid with notable antioxidant properties. An underrecognized but well-studied botanical in topical applications.
Vitamin E — Added as a natural antioxidant to protect the lipid base and extend shelf life.

How it's made
Each batch begins with dried herbs that are finely ground to maximize surface area, then pre-soaked in a measured amount of food-grade ethanol (Everclear) for 24–48 hours. This dual-solvent extraction step pulls both ethanol-soluble and semi-polar compounds from the plant material that a straight lipid infusion would leave behind. The herb-ethanol mixture is then combined with the tallow and jojoba base and processed at low temperature for an extended period — long enough to fully evaporate the ethanol and allow thorough diffusion of botanical compounds into the lipid phase. The finished infusion is strained, Vitamin E is added, and the serum is bottled in amber glass to protect against UV degradation.


Where the herbs come from
Calendula is grown in our garden in Nebraska — compost-fed, hand-weeded, no pesticides or chemical inputs of any kind. Rose buds and hops are sourced from Mountain Rose Herbs and Starwest Botanicals, two of the most reputable organic herb suppliers in the US, with verified organic and wildcrafted certifications.


How to use
Apply 2–4 drops to clean, dry skin. Warm between fingertips and press gently into face and neck. Can be used morning or evening — a little goes a long way. The serum absorbs without greasiness; if it feels heavy, you're using too much. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Amber glass is provided to protect light-sensitive botanical compounds during storage.
