This plan will teach you how to build a small dovetail box. This box is a great project for beginners and for practicing dovetail joints, as it is made of a few small pieces and is joined with dovetails on all 4 sides.
This is an ideal project for hand tools enthusiasts due to its size, although it can also be built using power tools. The box in this plan is 150mm (~6”) long, 75mm (~3”) wide and about 83mm (~3 ¼”) tall with the lid, and each side of the box is 6mm thick.
I built the box on the pictures with curly maple and started from stock that was about 7mm (~1/4" thick). You can use any type of wood you want. Some other species that work well with hand tools are mahogany, walnut, cherry, or even poplar and pine (these 2 are softer and less durable, but easier to work with).

This is one of those files I wish I never had to bought....not because of the file....it is AMAZING and perfect, but because of what it is used for. I am making this for my father-in-law that recently passed away. I will modify it because my mother-in-law eventually will want to be forever together with him. I do CADD for a living so it should be an easy modification, but these files are a great starting point
