Where do you get your bugs?

Some I find on walks (or fish out of pools) but many come from ethical sellers. These sellers come in a few different forms including aviaries or farms/ ranches but the defining features I look for is that they release a portion of what they have to raise populations and biodiversity along with having the insects die naturally (aka, not killing them)!

How do dead bugs support conservation?

With rainforests both holding a majority of the earths biodiversity along with being exploited for timber or fuel, economic arguments are essential to convincing the peoples within these countries that renewable resources are more valuable than the unsustainable exploitation of forests. Insect farms/ ranches are one of these arguments, as giving supplemental income in exchange for preserving and enhancing insect and animal habitat, these areas benefit ecologically while supporting their economies. Economic incentives can play an important role in transitioning to sustainable use of these ecosystems and organizations like the World Wildlife Fund have even included these projects in their conservation programs.

Care Instructions For Real Insect Pieces

While I have never had an issue with my pieces, when dealing with organic matter there is always the fear of mites and other organisms eating away at the piece. It is recommended that you check in on your pieces every few months for damage/ mites and if they are found simply place in your freezer for three days to kill them all off. If you'd like to be safer than sorry, you can do this even if you do not see damage or mites though I do freeze all my pieces before they get shipped out. It is also recommended to keep your piece out of direct sunlight to avoid sun damage/ color bleaching.

Do you ship outside of the USA?

Unfortunately, shipping insects over boarders becomes both very tricky and costly and so as of right now I am only shipping within the USA.
