SOOOOO lucky to have found this amazing quilt! This quilt is French and dates from the late 1700's , possibly early 1800's ~ it's one of the most rare quilt's I have ever found ~ The fabric is an ikat, the French call is Flamme ~ This pattern is one of the most rare of the French Ikats. I've never found another like it in 24 years of my career! ~ This quilt is also rare due to its size! It's massive for an early textile! ~ There is a nice thick batting between the layers. This quilt is backed in a finely woven metis ~ The back is stained and has some holes, so this quilte should be enjoyed only for the front ~ I've freshly laundered it but I'm afraid the back has staining ( please see more details on the condition of this beauty, below) . Ikat fabric was all woven by hand. The threads are first dyed, and then lined up with excruciating accuracey and woven so that that wonderful pattern appears. It's an ammazingly complicated and time consuming technique! This quilt is ideal for any collector or someone that loves living with one of the most wonderful of these historic textiles ~
MEASUREMENTS : This lovely textile measures approx. 100 inches by approx. 90inches
CONDITION: I've freshly laundered this lovely quilt and it's ready to use! One the front ( the ikat side) has some generalized stianing. It's far paler than the backing but it's there. There are some very small holes on the front. The backing has small holes here and there and staining. This quilt should be enjoyed only for the Ikat side or it can be backed in another fabric. This quilt for it's age and use is in good conditoin, however it is not without signs of time and use, often inherent in these wonderful textiles ~*~ ( condition is reflected in the price)
