Khidr and Elijah Discover The Water of Life, Watched by Alexander - Eclectic Wall Art, Mughal Art Print, Persian Miniature Art

This fabulous watercolour artwork is from the Falnamah (Book of Divination), a rare surviving work consisting of 35 double-page openings. Each page reveals secrets, prophecies, and hidden knowledge. Created some time in 1610-30 in Deccan, India, in gold, silver and ink, the painting actually depicts a scene from another book (Iskandar-Namah, or Book of Alexander), which was written by the poet Nizami in the 12th century. Here Khidr (a figure of wisdom from the Quran) and the Biblical prophet Elijah (known in Islam as Elias) are the spiritual guides of Alexander the Great, and they help him find the Water of Life in the Land of Darkness. This artwork represents the pinnacle of the Mughal art form - an eclectic fusion of Persian and Indian painting.

This reproduction fine art print remains faithful to the original aesthetic of the illustration including its asymmetrical setting in the illuminated border. The original border was badly faded so another traditional border of the period has been added by us to augment the piece.

Digitally enhanced by Future Past Creations and printed on premium cotton textured fine art paper. All sizes refer to sheet size, and the prints have a white border for easy handling.

We have taken care to preserve each image in its correct aspect ratio, so not every paper size is available across all listings. However feel free to contact us if you would like a custom size, and we will try to help.

Our prints fit neatly into standard frames, or bigger if you use a mount.
