Large plate with Rubens self-portrait by Royal Delft (Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles).
Handpainted reproduction in deep Delft blue colors of a 1623 self-portrait by the Flemish baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640). Rubens produced it for Charles, Prince of Wales (the later Charles I). The painting is still in the Royal Collection.
Signed at the lower right "naar Rubens" (after Rubens). Rubens staring into your room will certainly be an eyecatcher.
Crazing is commensurate with age, but minor. The truly dark-blue colors are beautifully preserved.
In excellent condition: no chips, cracks or hairlines. Only a minute chip at the top edge has been retouched (see close-up picture). Crazing commensurate with age (but none visible up front).
This plate forms a unique combination with the Rembrandt self-portrait (same painter and year of production) to showcase two of the greatest painters from the golden age of Dutch - Flemish art. A 10% refund applies when purchasing both (when no other discount applicable ).
