Here we have a varied collection of handwritten correspondence dating from the end times of the Second World War into its aftermath. Each letter is perfectly preserved, enveloped/with original postage stamps and marks. Enclosed within are wonderfully detailed accounts of people's daily life during and after the war, messages of hope and love, celebration cards, drawings from children, newspaper clippings etc.
Each letter tells part of a real-life story and makes a fascinating, and often emotional read. There is correspondence between the same individual, meaning you can often follow a story in real-time through multiple letters. The papers describe first-hand accounts of air raids, rationing etc. An interesting insight into social history. Letters include those sent into the UK from army bases abroad.
These ephemeral letters can be used in crafting, scrapbooking etc, as a curio, or even for research into social history/genealogy!
