This is my replica of the Chain Of Office depicted in the Hilliard's portrait of Henry VIII.

Zooming in on this miniature to capture the detail made it a fascinating piece to work on. Each component is made by hand in multi-layers. I have layered antique gold plated filigrees, Tudor ouches, metal framed beads, red carnelian gemstones, black crystals and gold plated findings to build the piece. There are also grey glass pearls and a stainless steel gold plated George and The Dragon pendant.

The chain of office is one continuous chain designed to put on over your head, there are no clasps at the back. Depending on your costume and how you like the chain to sit across the shoulders it can be easily pinned into place if necessary. It measures 43 inches.

Nicholas Hilliard (c. 1547 – 7 January 1619) was an English goldsmith and limner best known for his portrait miniatures of members of the courts of Elizabeth I and James I of England. He mostly painted small oval miniatures, but also some larger cabinet miniatures, up to about 10 inches (25 centimetres) tall, and at least two famous half-length panel portraits of Elizabeth.
