This set of 3 images is sold as a collection. They will be shipped as 3 separate screens ready for taping. The sizes are 3", 4" and 6". The screens include additional space around the image for taping.

This screen can be used on fabric, paper, or other mixed media surfaces. Use with screen printing inks, textile paints or thickened dyes. If using on paper: fabric and paper absorb paint in different ways as do different types of paper. When using paper you will need to try different amounts and brands of paint with different viscosity to be sure you are getting the coverage you wish. You may need to use a different type of paint on paper than you would use on fabric to get the results you desire. The texture of the paper may also affect the results.

When you receive the screen, it will need to be duct taped on the edges before use, unless you choose the "taped" option when making your purchase. You can find a tutorial on taping on my blog at http://threadfiberfabricpaint.blogspot.com/2012/12/tutorial-screen-taping.html.

Care of screens: When finished printing with a screen, immediately drop it in a pan of lukewarm water (kitty litter pans are perfect!) so the paint does not dry on the screen. Metallic paints will quickly clog a screen, so not letting the paint dry is especially important. I like to wash the screens right away (plain water is all that's needed); an old toothbrush or finger nail brush helps with cleanup. Dry them with an old towel and set aside with the plastic-coated side up to dry completely. Damp screens stacked on top of each other may stick together. Store flat (scrapbook paper storage boxes work great).

Can you burn me a screen if the image has grey areas? Or if the image is in color? Images need to be high contrast black and white. Grey areas do not burn. If the image is in color, it needs to be converted to black and white. We will do this for an additional fee of $5.00; add the Photoshop Adjustments item to your shopping cart.

What type of paint can I use? Use paints formulated for textiles, or add a textile medium to acrylic craft paints. These paints will give your finished product a softer “hand”; non-textile paints would leave fabrics stiff. Of course, the intended purpose of your item should also be taken into consideration. It is less critical in a piece of wall art that will not be worn or washed. Some types of paint we use include: ProFab (made by prochemicalanddye.com), Speedball Fabric Printing Inks, Jacquard paints, Versatex paints (both Jacquard and Versatex are available from DharmaTrading.com), Simply Screen made by Plaid, and SoSoft made by DecoArt.

Can I send you my image via mail instead of electronically? The short answer is yes, if you want to send images via postal mail we can work with them. The long answer is the reason we prefer digital images. In order for an image to work with the thermofax machine, it has to contain carbon. That means drawings must be done with either carbon pencil or pen. Alternatively, a digital image must be printed with a laser printer or copy machine because the toner contains carbon. So if you send drawings, unless they are done with carbon, we would scan them so they can be printed digitally with a laser printer in order to make the screen.

How do I tell the size of my image in Photoshop or Phtoshop Elements? Under your image on the left it tells you at what percentage you are viewing the image and the dimensions. There is a dropdown menu that lets you choose “document dimensions” to see the size of your image. You could also see the dimensions by going to the Image menu, then Resize, which will show you the current dimensions.
