A handmade artist book, this tribute to Joseph Cornell comprises of digitally printed artwork by Anne Corr and makes a wonderful gift for the art lover! I can include a personalised dedication too.
It features work inspired by and referencing Joseph Cornell's assemblage work, of which he was a pioneer during the 1930's in New York. He was self taught, and a deeply poetic man, collecting ephemera and curating them to narrate the world around him, and the world within. His younger brother died young of cerebral palsy and Joseph had deep love for him, having been his carer. He was interested in the surreal artists, and influenced heavily in his life by Christian Science, and I have referenced this in the book. He also was a great believer in beauty, and believed that artists renew and transform materials, experiences, and ideas, and this belief fuelled his ability to communicate the beauty and magic in ordinary, often forgotten things. He is an artist that has inspired and motivated me in creating my own collections.
Enclosed in the book is a postcard I have designed and written a message to Joseph Cornell which goes some way to explaining his influence on me. The pages are printed onto watercolour paper and then handstitched into bespoke covers using a traditional coptic stitch method. I finish the book with a bespoke slip cover that complements the covers.
The finished book measures approx 11 x 15 cm.
