Up for sale is a gorgeous early 20th century painting by the talented Pennsylvania artist Martin B. Leisser born from two German immigrants. This work is executed in oil on canvas laid to board and depicts a lovely Rothenburg, Germany street scene showcasing the 14th century medieval Siebers clock tower. This town is located in the district of Ansback of Mittelfranken, the Franconia region of Bavaria. Part of the popular Romantic Road through Southern Germany it is best known for its well preserved medieval town. This fine example from Leisser is a great example of the artists talent showing lovely composition and execution with fine detail and color. I particularly like the painter in the foreground painting the tower with children standing behind watching him paint. This possibly be Leisser himself.

The work measures quite large at 24.75 x 17 inches while its beautiful period gold wood frame measures 28.25 x 20.25 inches making this work ready to be hung and enjoyed! Signed in the low right corner “M.B. Leisser” the work is titled and dated August 12, 1911 just after. The condition of this painting while overall good does show two surface scuffs low center and one mid right. The surface has discolored to a yellowish off white and after a good cleaning would significantly brighten the painting and help add depth. The frame may also show minimal wear.
