c. 1934 IRON METEORITE STONE lithographs • original vintage lithographs - meteoric iron - shooting star & falling star debris • set of 12

TITLE : METEORITE STONES -

A meteor is a small body of matter from outer space that enters the earth's atmosphere, becoming incandescent as a result of friction and appearing as a streak of light.

When a meteoroid enters Earth's atmosphere at a speed typically in excess of 45,000 mph), aerodynamic heating of that object produces a streak of light, both from the glowing object and the trail of glowing particles that it leaves in its wake. This phenomenon is called a meteor or "shooting star". If that object withstands ablation from its passage through the atmosphere as a meteor and impacts with the ground, it is then called a meteorite.
