Family tree descendant charts (two per order) gifts for grandpa, grandma, mom, dad, son, daughter, baby, men, women, mother, father in-law, cousins, relatives and friends. Unique design diagrams up to four generations of families presently, plus, room for future growth and changes. Below the couple at top, three columns of blank space are labeled for children (son/daughter-in-laws), grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It’s the perfect tool to keep track of and display the wedding anniversary of bride/groom, spouses’ birthdays, stepchildren/parents, half-siblings, babies, nieces and nephews. They can also be utilized to expand basic ancestry genealogy research by charting the entire extended family—aunts, uncles, cousins and distant relatives. The templates arrive with blank spaces for you (or your gift recipient) to finish by filling in personal information. Artistic prints feature a banner, large oak tree, woodcut style sun and clouds, silhouettes of birds—all arranged in an aesthetically pleasing, balanced illustration. The style could be described as retro, vintage, antique, old world, art nouveau, art deco, woodland, folk, traditional, historical, primitive and rustic.

Paper size is 8 by 22 inches. As shown, 1/4" blank margin is hidden by the frame (not included).
PAPER COLOR OPTIONS: Natural (original) and White (new 2018) parchment-style papers have neutral “cloudy” look where parts are slightly lighter and darker. The elegant paper exhibits a touch of class with a light, tactile vellum finish which is easy to write on to complete the work and make it your own. Wausau Paper® Astroparche® 60 lb. text stock is elementally chlorine as well as acid- and lignin-free for great quality that doesn't deteriorate. Along with these family tree charts with blank patches, my handmade journals, blank stationery for my clipart designs and gift tags are cut from large parent sheets to avoid any waste. They are FSC® certified and meet the mark of responsible forestry and Green Seal™ certified and contain 30% recycled post-consumer fiber.
Two banner spots at top of chart are for eldest couple (this could be for those who have the status great-grandfather/mother or for potential great-grandparents). Fill out the blanks for born dates (deaths can be added in parenthesis), wedding date, and location of residence. How you fill out the chart is up to you or your gift recipient. These top spots might be where you put yourself/spouse, your mom/dad; or, you might start the chart with your grandpa/grandma at top, ending with your children in the right column.
Left column is for children (of people at top). Example shows six siblings: a brother and five sisters with maiden/former last name(s) in parenthesis; marriage date; their husband/wife name/birthday. Contact information is optional; if it doesn't seem helpful to you, simply leave these details off for a more airy look.
Center column is for the offspring of the left-column-children (or grandchildren of the folks in banner). My example shows [spouse in square brackets], the couple's birthdays are directly under their names followed by where they live, plus, their wedding anniversary or information about engagement.
Right column holds the babies (great-grandchildren of the people at the top of the chart). You may include optional miscellaneous information; near Portia, my example lists her biological father and half-brother.
Column gutter space for you to make connection markings:
>------> 1-tail arrow: child born prior to the listed parent’s current marital status.
| Above/below vertical line belong to the same family.
>>----> 2-tail arrow: child of current marriage.

TWO FORMAT LISTINGS are available, described as follows. They work well together by completing one before the other or simultaneously. It is not necessary to utilize both formats in order to use one or the other.
(1) This listing is for two 8x22" printed paper template charts. You (or your gift recipients) may add personal information on 80 blank lines (16-point vertical spacing by two inches wide) per column with keepsake handwriting. Example is written by hand with an extra-fine rolling ball black ink pen. You may choose to use a sharp or .5mm mechanical pencil for potential editing. A matching paper swatch is included to cut/paste-patch small mistakes. Artwork is copyrighted. You get a pair of descendant chart prints—2 printed charts per 1-quantity order—and rights for personal use: only original FreshRetroGallery prints can be distributed, blank or completed by you, as personal gifts, anniversary party favors, at holidays, family reunions, and weddings, etc.; by purchasing this printed item you agree not to scan, make copies or reproduce it before or after the chart is complete; you may re-sell charts at your reunion, genealogy event or in your gift shop.
(2) NOT THIS LISTING, but also available as a digital file—no physical item will be sent. See it here https://www.etsy.com/listing/287775143/family-tree-descendant-chart-digital After you add to cart and check out, the common pdf form file is downloadable any time from your receipt. It allows you to easily fill out the form fields with your own information text and “save as” your personalized file you can save onto your computer to store and revise as your family grows and changes. Text can be entered as 9-point type on 104 blank lines per column. Click “return” to get to the next line or add space. Hyphens (-), greater-than signs (>) and vertical bars (|) can be used to indicate family connections. Artwork is copyrighted. The purchaser of this pdf form may give it as personal gifts in original blank state or edited and “saved as” personalized file(s). Please include the readme.pdf when sharing the form as a personal gift. With the purchase of the descendant chart pdf file, you and your gift recipients have rights for personal use. By purchasing the pdf, you agree to use only for personal-use and not to re-sell or share professionally, commercially or publicly; you may print the pdf. If needed, search online for support of printing with your particular printer. I recommend using the poster setting at 100% or page setup as landscape to tile all pages of the document on 3 sheets (USA 11x8.5") of fine natural parchment-style paper, sold separately at: https://www.etsy.com/listing/237086026/blank-paper-60-pieces-fine-natural . Please do not host source files on your server and or redistribute them as your own either in part or whole. Using the pdf file requires computer knowledge, software and equipment; the pdf is non-returnable. Acrobat Reader is the recommended PDF viewer to open and interact with this form; last time I checked, it’s available as a free download from Adobe.com. I don’t know if other software is available and compatible. Form fields may be highlighted with purple tint areas which show on screen but do not print; you may click “Highlight Fields” to turn it off and on.

One single chart holds four-generations. The example represents how it looks filled-out for a large family with six children. Larger families may need additional charts unless the data can be arranged differently. Additional prints can be tacked on by taping the bottom portion onto the length on the back. To accommodate a small family, excess length can be cut off or folded backward to save for potential growth.
No two families are exactly alike, so the chart is loosely formatted to fit the needs of each unique family. You cannot know ahead of time if someone will marry, if they will or won’t have children, how many children someone may have, or how many children each of those children might have. On the print version, you may choose to use pencil for potential editing; or you may reopen and edit the digital version to make changes.

Creative ideas on how to use; how to complete and optional ways to fill out the descendant charts:
• Keep it simple with names only; or, write down birthday, wedding anniversary, death date, address, email, phone and all the information you choose (or have room) to record.
• Make notes of adoptions, death/divorce, subsequent marriages, step-children/parents, half-brothers/sisters, etc.
• Draw circles and squares around the information you write to help clarify family members or gender.
• Freehand draw straight or curved lines, braces, brackets and arrows to record and create your unique diagram of kin by grouping families.
• Write on printed chart with sharp or mechanical-pencil, fine roller-tip pen, colored pencils or pens.
• Color-code with highlighters.
• Embellish with watercolor paint or colored pencils.
• Use it as a base to add items. Cut/paste separate text or photographs you’ve printed, applying them onto empty areas. You may choose to place the pdf version into your own layout-program software such as inDesign® to add digital images.
• Use as a wall hanging banner by attaching dowels, sticks or poster hangers.
• Roll to display on a shelf or coffee table near other family memorabilia.
• Fold to add to a scrapbook, journal, photo album or to file in a drawer with other important documents.
• Wrap and twist wide wire ribbons around rolled charts for shower, wedding, anniversary, reunion, birthday, Christmas holiday gifts and special events party favors.
• If you choose to frame them, consider placing your charts on top of the glass for editing accessibility. Search for custom 8x22" frames, not included. Also, …
• … the chart would look excellent in an over-sized frame along with a collection of family photos of the people on the chart.
• Expand your information to create a pair, set, or group of descendant charts. This unique family tree chart design shows descendants beginning with any couple you choose. For example, if you have already used my fan chart/notebook designs for genetic ancestry research, you can now add extended family by using these charts to record your aunts, uncles and cousins.
• Plan fun trips to visit and bond with your relatives; bring them descendant charts as hostess gifts.
