Antique French Chore Dress, in Grey and Black light weight cotton with modernist pattern from around 1930.
This unusual piece hangs beautifully. It has a spacious gathered skirt and large oversized shoulder. This piece would have traditionally been worn as an overdress whilst working, hence certain details: holes for the arms reach to the waist line (see photo), and the back only closes until the waist - the bottom part remains open. However this could be closed simply if it was to be worn as a dress.
There is a black ribbon edge sewn to the sleeves, neckline and waist line. There is one front pocket.

Please note condition carefully as this piece is old:
- there are signs of wear and tear to the pocket area and patches of darning.
- there is variation to the colour throughout due to fading, this adds a lot of charm!
- there are a few stitches loose where the arms join the waistline. This could be very easily repaired with a couple of stitches.
- a tiny section of the gathered skirt near the poppers also needs a couple of stitches.

This piece is very charming and very unusual. It is definitely wearable how it is with all its charm. Or, repaired and altered a little depending on how it is worn.

Size - all measurements are taken when the garment is laid flat.

Shoulder - shoulder (from the outer edge, so massively oversized on this garment)- 72cm
Neckline to bottom hem - 107cm
