What if my package is lost in the mail?

Prunefinger's Cottage is not liable for shipments & packages that are lost, stolen, or delayed by the shipping carrier. This includes acts of God & all circumstances beyond our control. Once we deliver your item(s) to the shipping carrier it is their responsibility to deliver the package. Your purchases at Prunefinger's Cottage are covered by Etsy's Purchase Protection Program. > https://www.etsy.com/legal/buyers/?ref=list If your package is lost in the mail & you wish to use the Purchase Protection Program, contact us! We will point out the steps you need to take and prioritize our necessary actions with Etsy. If you suspect your package was stolen, please contact your local police department to report the crime.

What packing materials do you use? Do you Gift wrap?

We often reuse and recycle clean shipping boxes and materials. If you would like new packaging for your shipment please send a message via Etsy for a custom shipping price, otherwise, please assume you will receive recycled shipping materials with new packaging materials. If you prefer a paper-wrapped gift with a big, oversized bow, please choose the $5 gift wrap fee and we will do it up! We use new packaging materials when the $5 gift option is chosen and added to your order. Most of our products fit inside one of our gift-ready pink boxes.

I hate all the plastic packaging. What do you do to reduce wasteful and single use plastics in the environment?

A lot. Our goal for 2027 is to transition from plastic mailer envelopes to recycled cardboard boxes and paper mailer envelopes. When we do use plastic bubble envelopes we purchase these as NOS (new old stock) from a local 4 star nonprofit thrift store where 97% of the funds go to individuals and families with disabilities within our Colorado community. The cardboard boxes we use are either on their second purpose coming to you, are made of recycled materials and/or are compostable. By choosing to buy any products on Etsy, Etsy covers the carbon emissions offset of every purchase on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/impact

What shipping services do you offer? Do you do local pick ups?

FREE SHIPPING on order $35 and over via USPS Ground Advantage! Enjoy USPS Ground Advantage shipping within the United States via 2-5 day. We do not offer local meet-ups and pick up as a shipping option.

What is your return policy?

All returns must be approved before shipping back to us. Prunefinger's Cottage is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged return shipments. Please choose the signature required option to ensure your return package is not stolen. If the item is broken or lost in transit, it is your responsibility to file a claim with the shipping carrier for the damaged or lost items(s). The buyer is responsible for all return postage & returning the product in the same condition in which it was shipped. When we receive a return, we video the opening, contents of the return, & the condition the items are in coming out of the package. Should there be a dispute you will receive a copy of the video.

If my item goes on sale after I order will you refund the difference?

The price you paid is the price of the item at the time of your order. When we put any of our items on sale we do not retroactively go back and refund all of our customers the price difference.

What if my purchase is returned to Prunefinger's before I receive it?

If your purchase is returned to us, Prunefinger's Cottage, you are responsible for paying for re-shipment. This includes if you provided us with an incorrect mailing address (check that gift recipient's address!), mail undeliverable status or any reason the shipping carrier deems relevant.

What is wool needle felting? Who can needle felt? Are your DIY craft kits suitable for children?

It is the art and craft of forming animals, sculptures, or wool paintings using wool roving and specialty barbed needles. By poking the fibers with the barbed needles, the wool fibers are locked into place making soft creations. It is said it is a forgiving craft since one can easily remove poked-in areas quickly to redo until you are happy with the outcome. It teaches the skill of converting a 2D image into a 3D sculpture while allowing for repeated mistakes and easy fixes. Our needle felting kits and sewing kits are kits for beginners but not small children. The tools used to needle felt are very sharp and dangerous. The DIY kits are labeled as adult craft kits suitable for teens and tweens with adult supervision.

Where does your wool come from? How do you store it?

Our Bergschaf batting is mulesing-free and shorn from Austrian sheep. DHG in Italy washes, cards, and dyes the wool. It has been tested for 1000+ harmful substances and is certified harmless to humans. The washed and carded Maori blend wool, also mulesing free, originates in New Zealand and is tested and processed by DHG. Upon receiving our wool we bag the wool in clear resealable bags and store the bagged wool in air-tight bins in climate-controlled storage. We use lavender bags and cedar blocks in the wool storage area to further deter pests.

My wool smells funny. What's up with that?

Like leather, wool comes from an animal and sometimes smells like sheep, or lanolin to be exact. The more natural the fiber the stronger the potential smell. Sometimes when wool is stored in plastic bags to deter pests (moths) the odor is stronger when opening the bag. This smell is not a sign of bad quality fibers as some would say or think. Even one the industries highest quality wool distributor, the Italian company DHG has stinky wool. The natural organic wool batts arrive lanolin rich and smelling of sheep. An easy trick to remove odors is to place the fibers in the sun and break down the oil. If you are very sensitive to the smell, please send me a message and I am happy to be honest about your potential shipment.

A needle felting craft gift kit for beginners to make a felted red fox. Learn a new craft with the detailed felting tutorial, instructions, and pattern. The fox finishes around 4” tall. A larger-sized felted animal is a good starter size as it is easier to work on than a smaller-sized kit.

The felting tools, such as the needles and awl included in this kit, are very sharp. Using finger protectors to guard your fingertips while felting is recommended. This is not a Craft recommended for small kids, given the sharp tools used in the felting process.

The tutorial teaches you how to felt and join basic forms to sculpt 3D wool felted animals, how to blend wool to create depth and texture, and also learn when and how to use the 3 gauges of felting needles.

Using the natural white wool roving fibers and barbed felting needles, roll and poke the wool roving into basic forms, then join the felted shapes together, sculpting a felted woodland and forest animal.

You supply a can-do attitude, sharp scissors, and clear-drying craft glue for the eyes. Tweezers for picking natural bits and stray fibers are optional but handy.

I gave this kit and one other to my granddaughters for Christmas. They really enjoyed learning a new skill and expressed an interest in doing more needle felting. There were thorough instructions and plenty of wool included. I found the leather thimble, however, to be ineffective, but that's the case with all leather thimbles I've worked with.
