You are buying mulberry silk laps and will receive approximately 4.7 ounces in this listing. This sheet is approximately 3 feet x 3 feet and can be stretched out wider or peeled into thinner sheets. Photos never do enough justice to silk, but I think you will have fun working with this.
These are mulberry silk laps. Mulberry silk comes from the Bombyx Mori moth which feeds on mulberry leaves. This diet creates a very soft high luster white silk. These are sheets of silk that has been carded but not yet combed and processed into top. They have lovely texture and due to being carded are easier to draft and work with than silk hankies. They come off the drum carder in huge sheets which I break down into smaller pieces (full sheets are also available - they weigh up to 2 pound) .
They are so much fun to dye with the larger size making them more versatile for a variety of techniques. Great for large nuno felting projects, blending, spinning, or draft out by hand and knit or crochet. Very soft and plenty of luster. This is 100% mulberry silk.
These are also popular for use as quilt batts, making very warm, extremely lightweight batts. That was actually the original purpose of this silk for the high end quilt market.
