This is a handcrafted sensory mat, perfect for interacting with someone with dementia/Alzheimer's. Designed with a cooking theme, the back features various fruits while the front has kitchen items, some on the fabric and some, like a measuring spoon and small potato masher, attached. There is a squishy macaron and a textured ring for tactile engagement. The zipper has a ring with beads attached to make it easier to grasp and pull. The clip holds a flap. The fabrics are pieced together in quilt fashion and, along with the ribbons and lace, vary in color and texture.
The design lends itself to the repetitive action that many people with Alzheimer's exhibit. Items are securely attached. It can provide an opportunity to initiate interaction with someone by tapping into distant memories. Perfect for small children, people with special needs, ADHD, anxiety, dementia, Alzheimer's.
