"Galisteo", a small mountainside town in New Mexico, USA, holds a special place in my heart. This is not just because it is where my wonderful mother now resides, but because its dry desert landscape and its expansive and ever-changing skies have sparked in me a renewed love for the countryside. This is something I thought impossible, being such a city girl. But perhaps countryside is the wrong word, for New Mexico is truly wilderness. This print is a minimalist rendition of the breathtaking view from my mother's windows (pictured) looking over the Ortiz Mountains, the first in a series inspired by the American Southwestern desert.
This print is small edition of 13 and has been carved with a reduction process, meaning that the block cannot be reprinted into more editions. The embossing process involves creating enough pressure on paper with the use of an etching press, to reveal the depth of the design, resulting in an enchanting minimalist sculptural effect.
"Galisteo" is a limited edition print of 13 on Stonehenge 250gsm printmaking paper and measures at 20cm H x 16cm W.
