Regarding The Meteorite:

Research has determined this meteorite to be the most ancient ever discovered, having impacted Earth during the Quaternary Period approximately one million years ago. It is believed to originate from the iron core or mantle of a planetoid, breaking apart upon entry to Earth. Since its arrival, the meteorite has survived four ice ages and was discovered within a glacial moraine in the northern tundra, featuring a heavily weathered surface adorned with pebbles that have become fused over time.

The Muonionalusta meteorite, identified as a fine octahedrite of type IVA (Of), made its impact in northern Scandinavia, to the west of the Sweden-Finland border, about one million years BCE.

The initial fragment of the Muonionalusta meteorite was discovered in 1906 near Kitkiöjärvi village. To date, approximately forty fragments have been located, some of significant size, within a 25-by-15-kilometer region in the Pajala district of Norrbotten County, roughly 140 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.

Professor A. G. Högbom first documented the meteorite in 1910, naming it after the nearby Muonionalusta area along the Muonio River. Further analysis was conducted in 1948 by Professor Nils Göran David Malmqvist. The Muonionalusta meteorite, estimated to be the oldest known meteorite at 4.5653 ± 0.0001 billion years, represents the first identification of stishovite in an iron meteorite.

The name "Muonionalusta" is derived from Finnish, combining the name of the Muonio River and "alusta," meaning "base, foundation, or starting point," likely referring to its initial discovery site near the river's origin.
