Fantastic, vintage silk scarf by French fashion designer Maggy Rouff, probably from the 1940s or 1950s. The scarf features a large sailing ship in the turbulent sea. In the background a large sun or moon. In addition to the rigging of the boat, they form the focus of the motif. The sea and the sky are depicted with expressive brushstrokes. The scarf is in black and white tones. In the lower right corner there is the "Maggy Rouff PARIS" logo. The edges are hand rolled. An exceptional and rare collector's item!

THE STORY: Marguerite de Wagner was born in 1896. Her parents opened a couture house in Paris in 1902 under the name Drécoll, whose name rights they had acquired. Here Marguerite started to design fashion. In 1929 she opened her own fashion house on the Champs-Élysées under the name Maggy Rouff. Rouff was known at the beginning of her career for her understated sportswear designs, later for her feminine evening gowns with interesting details such as ruffles, bias cut and shirrings. When finally big movie stars like Theda Barra, Pola Negri and Greta Garbo wore their clothes, their reputation was sealed. In 1948 Maggy retired from the business and her daughter Anne-Marie Besançon de Wagner took over the design. In 1965 the house had to close for economic reasons. Maggy Rouff died in 1971.
