Seller's description

ANTIQUE BROCADE Jacket 1800's style / Le Petit Prince Brocade Jacket and under layer / Hand sewn Boys Brocade Appliqué and Velvet Jacket / theatre costume - A Unique Find!

Grab a piece of history. This is a very sweet find - A perfect piece of costume history and fabric history. (if you are creative enough... the embroidery, alone, would make a wonderful 'upcycle' garment!)

I purchased this jacket from an antique store in Providence, RI back in the 1970's. As a dancer, I envisioned it being worn by a young Nutcracker Prince!
There is no tag or label, and the shop owner did not know the provenance, so my best guesstimate is that it appears to be from the styles of the 1800's although I've no idea of its creation date. Perhaps it was constructed as a 'costume' or perhaps it was an actual garment from a renowned Royal. I've yet to do a DNA test to be sure :-). Of note, it is Fragile.

- fits Child size or XXtra Small Adult...
- Length of outer jacket (from back of neck to bottom): ~16"
- Length of inner layer (from back of neck to bottom): ~17"
- Waist (at tightest area of inner layer): ~28"
- Armpit to armpit: ~16“
- Shoulder seam to shoulder seam: ~17“
- Shoulder seam to cuff: ~17“
- Neckline circumference: ~18"

There are 17 button holes with a mixed assortment of metal buttons, which may have been original, and some Mother of Pearl buttons and hooks, which may have been a later addition. The garment looks as if it had been hemmed or shortened since one button hole is hemmed in.

- Content: cotton sateen inner layer (?), velvet brocade outer jacket and along sleeve cuffs, lace at collar and cuffs, embroidered appliqués along front of chest and at cuffs, mother of pearl buttons, metal buttons, hooks, hand stitching.
- Condition: FRAGILE! Much of it is still in good condition, but much of it is very delicate with some shredding, tears, and weak spots. (zoom in on the photos to get a better view.) *My recommendation would be not to wear the garment but to find a more appropriate use for its fabric, appliqués, and beauty.
- Color: blue-green outer section, beige inner garment, and colorful embroidery threads

*Please note that when purchasing a vintage garment, it is an old item of clothing, most likely worn several times. It comes with its own history imbued with the unique individuality of the owner. It will most likely have signs of age and wear.
I have been as detailed as possible in the listing about its condition. Please inquire if you have any further questions.

**Note that colors may vary between monitors and screens. Items may be DARKER or LIGHTER than they appear in the photos.
