I personally recommend hand washing all hand knit items. Items dyed with food coloring and acid dyes should be washed on cold to prevent bleeding.

Avoid leaving food coloring dyed items in direct sunlight to dry as fading may occur.

YES! Yarn dyed with food coloring can go through the washing machine with laundry detergent with no observable color loss.

I have observed some fading when items have been in direct sunlight for months at a time (sitting on a windowsill), but have not observed any fading in winter accessories that I wear outside regularly or items exposed to indirect sunlight in my home.

Please avoid leaving anything dyed with food coloring in direct sunlight.
