WHY THIS PIECEThis is the original ink sketch Van Gogh made for his iconic Café Terrace at Night painting — the same composition, but in his characteristic reed-pen drawing style on cream paper. The black ink on warm cream gives it the gravity of fine art rather than poster reproduction, with the soul of a Parisian café evening preserved in every gestural line. It belongs in a dark academia library beside leather-bound books, in an old money study with brass and walnut, in a moody dining room behind candlelight, in a Parisian apartment with plaster walls and antique gilt, in a bohemian bedroom over a brass headboard, or in a writer's nook above a wooden desk. Pairs beautifully with antique gilt frames, blackened steel, brushed brass, walnut, or simple natural oak.

A NOTE ON RESTORATIONThis print has been gently restored from Vincent van Gogh's original 1888 reed-pen ink drawing, now in the public domain (Van Gogh, Dutch, 1853–1890). Spots, foxing, and discoloration have been carefully cleaned while preserving the original pen strokes, paper texture, and the warm tonal range of the cream ground.
