Forry Ackergun- Raku Fired Ceramic Sculpture
*Available for local pick up only, within 60 miles of Laramie, Wyoming*
Raku Rayguns are one-of-a-kind ceramic sculptures made by West Magoon. They are inspired by alien technology unearthed at a secret UFO crash site, known only to a tribe of Wyoming Hill People. Each raygun is named after a science fiction author, character or device.
This raygun features a pale blue glaze with flecks of copper and some parts that are glazed entirely in bright metallic copper. Much of the surface of this raygun has been pierced with a delicate filigree pattern, revealing pulsating lights within. The back of the raygun is made of glass and inside are unexpected depths and more layers of filigreed structure. The double barrels are sinuous and appear to be surprised in the middle of a dance move. They are also reminiscent of the twin necks of a Pierson's Puppeteer. This raygun is named in honor of Forrest Ackerman, beloved champion of all things Science Fiction.
The Raku Rayguns are sized for the human hand. This one measures about 12" long by 11" wide, at the widest. The Ackergun is meant to be displayed on a horizontal surface. The raygun rests on brass hooks embedded in the plaque which provide a sturdy support. This plaque has a recess underneath into which the case holding the batteries is concealed. A button on the battery case may be pressed in order to turn the lights on and off and to choose different colors and/or effects.
The visual roots that inspire these sculptures include sci-fi magazine covers from the 30's,40's and 50's, the styling cues from 50's automobiles, and design elements from Art Deco and Art Nouveau which contribute to the Steampunk flavor of the Raku Rayguns.
When shipping, we very carefully wrap each raygun in yards of bubble wrap and double-box them.
